How to Price Your Product

Smart pricing = confident selling

If you’re new to listing your costumes or collections online, knowing what price to set can feel tricky. You don’t want to undersell your items — or overprice them to the point they get overlooked. Here’s a simple guide to help you confidently set your prices on The Costume Vault.

1. Start With the Value

Begin by assessing the true value of your item or set:
• Condition: Is it brand new, gently used, or well-worn but still functional?
• Original cost: Think about what you (or your studio) originally paid for the item.
• Uniqueness: Is it a one-of-a-kind or custom-made piece? Sets and group costumes may carry more value than individual pieces.

2. Factor In Shipping

Shipping can affect your final price — both for you and your buyer. You have two options:
• Offer free shipping and build that cost into your product price
• Add a flat shipping fee directly in the product listing

Just make sure your pricing clearly communicates what the buyer is paying for. If you’re not sure how much shipping will cost, do a quick estimate using your local postal service.

3. Don’t Forget the Commission

The Costume Vault charges a commission on each sale:
• 9% for free accounts
• 6% for paid plans (coming soon)

Make sure you add this to your pricing calculations so you receive the amount you want after fees.

4. Want to Sell Faster? Think Like a Buyer

Great pricing is only part of what makes a listing stand out. Here’s how to create a listing that catches attention and builds trust:

Use Great Photos

• Include clear, well-lit photos of the full costume or item.
• Add close-ups of details (embellishments, labels, condition).
• If you’re selling a set or collection, show everything together and also highlight individual pieces.

Write an Accurate Description

• Include key info like condition, size, style, and any flaws.
• Unsure how to word it? You can even use AI tools (like ChatGPT!) to help polish your copy.

Tag it Right

• Add all relevant sizes, themes, and categories.
• The right tags help your item appear in search results and filters — giving it the best chance to be seen.

5. Check Before You Share

Before you hit “Publish”:
• Preview your listing to make sure everything looks right.
• Then share it on your socials and don’t forget to tag us — we’ll help boost your post too!

Final Tip: Don’t Overthink It

You can always adjust your pricing if something isn’t selling. Start with your best estimate based on value, and tweak if needed.

Now you’re ready — go price with confidence and turn those amazing costumes into cash (and cleared rack space)!
